Not a website, but if you ever have the chance to buy the book “A Gentleman Gets Dressed Up” do it. It is absolutely essential. A great read cover to cover, very humorous, and a perfect reference when prepping for that afternoon wedding in the Hamptons.

This list is well edited and nothing has been left out. A guide such as this today should not have selected any blogs that simply take pictures of people. Blogs today ARE the new magazines, and as such (as a reader myself) they have to contain editorial opinion, recommendation, review and confident advice. These sites selected in this guide represent all of that and more. Each has a given niche, and they are extremely well written by talent men who give solid and credible advice. These represent the finest range of what are our new digital magazines. I applaud the editors of The Art of Manliness for their insight, and their editorial vision. This guide is one to reference today and tomorrow because I honestly feel the blogs selected here this year are fast becoming our major top drawer digital magazines of tomorrow.

Brian,
I’m at the tail end of a similar journey. I started at over 300 and whittled myself down to a current 197 (and dropping).

Here’s what I did:
I cruised Goodwills, Marshalls, TJ Maxxeses, Thrift Shops and used it as an opportunity to experiment. I’ve cleaned out my closet and donated everything at least 4 times thus far. I went through a slick phase, an outdoorsman phase, and a professor phase. Hopefully one more cut and I’ll have figured out what works best on me and be able to spend real money on quality items in that vein.

I would say, don’t be afraid to buy used or severly discounted clothing, especially if you only plan on keeping it for a few months.

The extra bonus is that all my hunting has left me with a great selection of socks, ties, pocket squares, shoes, hats, etc.

I need a bit of advice. I received a beautiful “off white” silk tie, with a navy blue screen of an old cutter. I wanted to stay away from black and black. What other shirt and suit combinations would work?

I have been looking for this type of information for a long time. Great post! I am a 21yr old just getting my feet on the ground. I hate the idea of fashion but recognize I need to know how to dress with some style to be respected. This is just the type of thing I have been looking for. Thanks.
