beardhead2

Last week, I linked to a company called Beardhead that sells these awesomely funny ski caps that cover your face so it looks like you’re growing a Grizzly Adams-esque beard. I didn’t think much of it. Just thought it was something that AoM readers might find amusing. Then the other day I got an email from the owner of Beardhead  telling me thanks for linking to him and asking if he could give away a few Beardheads to AoM readers. I love giving free stuff to you guys, so I of course said, “Heck yeah!”

With spring break almost upon us, a Beardhead can come in real handy for those of you planning to hit the slopes. They cover your whole head and face in warm beardy delight. Even if you’re not going skiing, the Beardhead is perfect for our manly friends living in  locations, like say the Northeast, where winter is showing no signs of ending soon. Also, they’re good for readers who are planning on robbing a bank and are looking for a way to add a bit of panache to the old ski mask routine.

The Prize

Two splendiferous Beardheads, valued at $24.95 each, are up for grabs. They’re a knit one-size fits all hat that’s machine washable and sure to woo the ladies when you’re shoveling the snow.

How to Enter

Because the Beardhead could come in handy to those of you skiing over spring break, just leave a comment on this post sharing your best Spring Break trip ever. Did you hit slopes wishing you had a Beardhead? Did you go camping with your buds? Let us know.

Deadline to enter is Friday, March 6 at 11PM Central Standard Time.

After the deadline, I’ll draw two random entries and send them their Beardhead.

Looking forward to reading your stories. Good Luck!

I went on a road-trip with some friends up to Winnipeg. We were seniors in high school and it was our first voyage without our parents. Quite a bonding experience.

The best spring breaks for me are always going home from college in depressingly human Southern California to my parents’ beautifully green country home in NorCal. I usually spend my time helping out around the house, getting my hands dirty building with my father, and gorging on my mom’s home cooking.

Huzzah.

Best spring break ever was when I went to the grand canyon. Nothing beats hiking in a light snow.

4 Benjamin Eavey March 3, 2009 at 11:46 am

Best spring break was probably when some buddies and I drove on a whim to Myrtle Beach, got a cheap hotel room just off the water, and then spent the week just goofing around and having fun. Befriended some of the employees at the local Laser Tag place, too, and played all night long. Fun trip.

Spring break 1988: hitchhiked to Guatemala. Worked at a farm for a day to get enough money for the trip back. Mugged twice between Tijuana and Los Angeles, in the hospital with bacterial poisoning for a week. Had enough time to finish the outline and bibliography of my masters thesis, and met my wife in the hospital. Nothing like a six week spring break to right the ship.

Going snowboarding. Being from Hawaii it is pretty dang cool to see snow and play barefoot in it.

Best trip ever was to venezuela for a friends wedding. Brought the girlfriend at the time and had more sex than one should ever have in a period of one week. one to never forget

The past three, all service trips in college, have been great. My most memorable was New Orleans. I was down there six months after Katrina, gutting houses. There were so many people that left an impact on me- people in my group and homeowners.

Myself and two of my fiends decided to go anywhere for spring break that was tropical, so we found the cheapest package deal that we could which was a trip for four days in Montego Bay Jamaica. Te adventure that ensued tested us all. Our fist objective was cheap beer, hard to find in a tourist town filled with crafty natives. Unfortunately for us we were split apart and all taken to separate booths and made to buy an extremely overpriced wooden parrot but we got our beer. To make a long story short, we ate very little, enjoyed the rum and befriended a out of luck Jamacian who showed us the sights. We flew home later bleary eyed, hungry and very pleased with our tropical adventure.

My best spring break ever is coming up in two weeks. I’ve been through high school, college, and three years of grad school, and I never really appreciated spring break. Now I’m teaching high school, and, oh man, I finally see why we get a break. It’s not for students. It’s for teachers. I plan to sleep late, eat a lot, and not grade a single paper.

12 Fredrik March 3, 2009 at 1:08 pm

I live in Sweden, and our equivalent of the spring break is in February.

The best spring break I’ve ever had was in 2007. I was spending a few days at my father’s place and decided to go to a party with a girl I knew through the internet. One thing led to the other and two weeks later we became a couple. We celebrated our second anniversary yesterday.

I miss my husband’s beard, he has been shaving it off after reading the “How to shave like your grandpa” article. It’d be nice to see him with a beard again every once in a while.

My best spring break trip was really quite simple. I and 3 buddies drove to austin, texas for the boys high school state tournament. 3 days of high school basketball with my best friends and whatever adventures we could find. we borrowed a friends RV and parked it on a side street and set up our home away from home, complete with satelitte TV, a grill, a fridge, a football (because you never go anywhere with out your football), and a scouting report of all things austin, the live music capital of the world. it was incredible the 1st time as a college student, and has been just as fun each year when we take the same pilgrimage back each year for the last 13 years. and next weekend will be year 14.

16 Jim March 3, 2009 at 1:26 pm

My best spring break memory was driving down to Savannah, Georgia and spending several days hanging out, eating, and getting into whatever trouble we could find. Good times!

17 Matt Cole March 3, 2009 at 1:26 pm

In my senior year of high school my two best friends and I planned a really cool road trip to Virginia beach, Virginia. The three of us packed up some camping gear and hit the road, driving from Grand Rapids, MI to Virginia. We had such a blast just on the road trip, and when we got there we set up a tent in the woods so we could save money and be away from other people. Everyday day we walked to the beach, (about a 5 minute walk) and went swimming and played games. We also cruised main street looking for fun. We had great seafood, did some shopping, and saw some cool tourist attractions. It was an awesome time.

Well, I can’t remember any particularly oustanding spring break trips to date, but I will be shortly going on a spring break trip to Greece! It will be the best ever! The only problem is everyone in Greece has beards like this guy:
http://www.moyak.com/researcher/resume/papers/odysseus.html
I am only a senior in Highschool, and have not yet reached full beard growing potential–I don’t want to be shamed on my trip. Please send me a Beardhead ASAP so I can blend in and sport wonderful facial plumage in Greece!

19 Patrick March 3, 2009 at 2:51 pm

I am actually going skiing for my spring break this year. I have only skied a few times so having this Bearhead would make me look good even if my skiing isnt. Have a good one .

20 Drew March 3, 2009 at 3:47 pm

Best Spring Break ever: camping in the middle of the woods, getting wasted, and laughing uncontrolably!

21 Joe March 3, 2009 at 3:50 pm

In 2006 I was studying abroad in India and for spring break went to Dharmasala with a Tibetan friend for Losar (New Year). We attended the New Years festivities at the Dalai Lama’s residence and went hiking in the Himalayas afterward. It was incredibly cold though, and a Beardhead would have been a welcome layer under all of the scarves I wrapped around my face.

22 Peter H. March 3, 2009 at 3:56 pm

My best spring vacation trip was last year. I flew back home from law school, celebrated Holy Week and Easter with my family, and then two days later went on a first date with a classmate of mine from college. What we started that 11-hour-long afternoon together has lasted us nearly a year and is still going strong. I’m going back home again this year… and seeing her, of course.

I’m growing a beard right now, just so I know I can do it. She’s not that fond of it. But we would both love one that was both warm and removeable!

23 Ryan L. March 3, 2009 at 4:27 pm

Having to juggle work and class. During most Spring Breaks I just take my vaction leave at work, and spend that time off with friends and loved ones.

24 N Roberts March 3, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Best Spring Break? Going camping with my best friend and his family down the Oregon shore. We were just teenagers then, and full of the awkwardness that only teenagers can truly generate. Still, we had a complete blast – biking about, goofing off, playing pool at the local dive, trolling the beach, and playing Monopoly and other games until the wee hours of the morning with his family.

Dang. Now I need a mancation.

25 Fred Cai March 3, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Technically this hasn’t been my best spring break, but I believe it will be. This year during spring break I will be heading out to Utah to pretend to be on Mars for two weeks. An extra week of spring break + wandering around “Mars” in spacesuits = certified awesomeness (though a beard inside of the space helmet would be even more awesome). One more week until blast off!

26 Valerio March 3, 2009 at 4:56 pm

Best spring break has been last year, trip to Munich (Germany) with the 2 best friends of mine…we had an incredible time visiting the city, tasting the food and the beer and understanding such a different culture.

27 Bryan March 3, 2009 at 5:21 pm

Best spring break that I can recall is visiting my hometown in Brazil. Technically speaking, it turned into fall break once I crossed the equator.

I want that bearhead.

28 Ang March 3, 2009 at 6:00 pm

BEST SPRING BREAK EVER… Cruisin’ around Oahu meeting crazy people while camping on the North Shore.

29 justin c. March 3, 2009 at 6:01 pm

This wouldn’t exactly be a “spring break” but last year I volunteered for a charity org in the Philippines for 6 months, and around springtime in America I went to a Muslim-governed area in the south considered “dangerous” and built a house in 5 days with a team for a poor Muslim family. Unforgettable.

30 Adam March 3, 2009 at 6:05 pm

My best spring break started by my buddy’s car not start when we tried to leave campus. We spent the break BBQ-ing in the parking lot. We just grilled, drank beer and got in to a little trouble. A good example that just hanging out with all your buddies a grill and a few beverages is really all ya need.

31 Scott March 3, 2009 at 6:18 pm

The best “Spring Break” I’ve ever had was a two-week trip around Britain two Mays ago. It was a bit of whirlwind trip from London up to Haltwhistle, over to Holy Island (Best. Mead. Ever.), up to Edinburgh, down to York and Cambridge, back to London, then home.

Probably could have used the Beardhead while hiking up Arthur’s Seat–it can get breezy up there!

32 Derek March 3, 2009 at 6:27 pm

I’ve never actually done anything spectacular for spring break.

I’m going dog sledding later this month, though, and a beardhead would be an awesome addition to my gear!

33 Hunter March 3, 2009 at 6:34 pm

I spent spring break mostly fantasizing about Theodore Roosevelt. But I also spent a lot of time wishing I had a beard to join Beard Team USA (beardteamusa.org). Now I realize that a Beardhead might be my way in!!!

34 Nick March 3, 2009 at 6:41 pm

A college student now, I’ve had many great spring breaks with a couple more to come. The best one though was senior year of high school with 10 guys in Chalet in Gatlinburg, TN. While it sounds a little, shall we say… gay. It was actually a blast. A lot of good times, and hilarious pranks on one another. They always say, IQ decreases when the amount of people increases. We definitely proved that to be true. Add in alcohol for the perfect amount of ridiculousness.

35 Hallock March 3, 2009 at 7:43 pm

Best spring break trip I ever had was my senior year of high school. The weather was absolutely beautiful for the season in Michigan, and we drove north of Ann Arbor to this camping ground. We sat around the fire and talked for hours until we finally went to sleep. We managed to fit three people into a single person sleeping bag.

36 Eriks B. March 3, 2009 at 7:50 pm

Last year, in France. We and 8 of my best friends went to Caen in Northern France. We bought 3 hotel rooms, for 20$ US a night! then with the rest of our money we bought as much alcohol that we could. My friend who rarely drank before that, decided that he will have a bast, he bought a large bottle of Napoleon Brandy and drank it all in one sitting! I asked him it he was ok? He stood up and said “I fell fine” And then he dropped to the floor and he was done! When we woke up the next day he was still in the floor! So we left him there. Until late at night that evening, when we came back, we say him watching TV.. I will never forget that trip.

37 Seth March 3, 2009 at 8:04 pm

I’m sad to say it, but I’ve never actually gone anywhere for Spring break. Ever since I was old enough, I would just help my dad in his hardware store. Not very exciting to say the least, but at did get paid.

38 Victor March 3, 2009 at 9:02 pm

Spring break ‘07. No fancy vacations, but me and buds made the best of it. Took to the top of local Sign Hill (pretty darn steep) and rode down on skateboards suffering ruined clothes and wet jeans, but also bragging rights. We then scarfed an obscene amount of burgers and chugged many liters of soda. Good times…

39 CJ Apgar March 3, 2009 at 9:37 pm

the best spring break trip ive had was a week of camping out with a few of my scouting buddies. campfire 24-7 and some good old back to basic living.

40 Brian March 3, 2009 at 10:16 pm

Best springbreak I had was a roadtrip through the southwest. the highlight was tombstone AZ. seeing boothill was awesome. cool nights a beardhead would have been nice.

41 Timothy S March 3, 2009 at 11:39 pm

I went camping and volunteer work in Mississippi after the Katrenina disaster.
I had fun/ But we worked hard too.

42 Rob March 4, 2009 at 1:04 am

At the risk of sounding lame, one of my spring breaks in high school was spent driving to the south with my parents and sister. We visited some family friends, went sailing, and saw lots of great landmarks.

My favorite part was visiting New Orleans, which is actually a very charming city when not filled with partying lunatics. We saw people singing the blues, ate Cajun food, learned about voodoo, and enjoyed breakfast at the Café du Monde.

A far cry from the insanity of places like Cancún, but an excellent break nonetheless.

43 Carol March 4, 2009 at 2:51 am

I really want to win this. I think it would be cool to have my husband wear it, and I can pretend he’s George Clooney.

44 Devin March 4, 2009 at 6:27 am

Our best Spring Break was on a houseboat on Lake Powell in S. Utah. Cliff-jumping, fishing for stripers, water-skiing, night cliff-jumping and sitting around the campfire at night telling manly stories of adventure and mystery. Prekrasno.

45 Mark March 4, 2009 at 6:27 am

My best spring break was every spring break while I was in school without a job. I miss getting that week off. Now that I’m in the real world spring break wont effect me until my boy gets into school.

46 Adam March 4, 2009 at 6:57 am

Best spring break was Senior year of college. About 15 of us went down to Puerto Vallarta for once last hoorah. Great weather, great company, great times.

47 Shane March 4, 2009 at 7:20 am

The best spring break that I can remember was to Padre Island, TX with friend from high school and his older brother + friends. We stayed in an A-frame beach house on N. Padre the entire week. Calling people up to the house to party, playing in the surf, and a day trip to Matamoros, Mexico, where we could legally drink. We carried back the legal amount of beer and tequila per person that day, bought ponchos, the whole nine yards. It wasn’t until a few years later that I heard about the college kids being kidnapped and killed in Matamoros at the time.

48 Hollis Locke March 4, 2009 at 7:51 am

My buddy and I took an old minivan to Virginia Beach, it turned out to be a really cold week so we didn’t get any swimming in, but we met up with a bunch of friends. And to save a little cash, we just slept in the back of the van. I hope that I never do that again!

49 Kat C. March 4, 2009 at 9:00 am

This is soooo cool. i always go camping, and the nights can get chilly, and this could really help keep out the cold! =)

50 Chris March 4, 2009 at 9:05 am

Would love to have this for Whistler in time for Spring Break. Best Spring Break (not that we have them in the UK), was kayaking in the French Alps, some great white water and camping in the valley.
Come to think of it, a beardhead would have come in useful for those chilly mornings too.
