I have had a beard for over two years before it was a trend. I grew it as a joke, that's another story. I found that growing my beard was a process first you decide to do it, then once your facial hairs start growning you start in phases, such as, letting certain parts of your face grow out than gradually adding in the full beard. Your family and friends will hate it at first, but once you have a master's beard everyone gets intimidated by it especially cleanly shaved men! It is an advantage. In a way, you are letting people know you are not a child but a Man!

To maintain your beard purchase a really good scissor. I trim my beard daily only to shape the edges and the chin area so not to have loose longer hairs sticking out. I also shave my neck and some face area with a straight razor to keep it clean looking.

Good luck.

Just wanted to share that I've finally decided to stick out the 4-6 weeks it takes to grow a beard. I've tried several times in the past, but gave up after a couple of weeks of intense itching on my neck and face.

This time I decided to get some tips on growing a beard, and a quick google search later learned the following helpful tips:
1. All beards itch initially (I thought I was the only one). A 1% solution of hydrocortizone will help with the itching, if it's truly intolerable.
2. You beard will soften eventually.
3. You have to grow it for at least a month.

By the time I've finished phase 1 - i.e. growing the beard, I'll be celebrating the big four oh, and what better time to man up with a manly beard than your fortieth, right?
